About our centres
The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST) is a UK based charity dedicated to providing riding therapy with donkeys to children with special needs and disabilities.
The aims of the EST are to bring enjoyment and pleasure into their lives and to give them the satisfaction that comes with the achievement of learning riding skills.
Riding skills are taught by qualified riding instructors using the donkey because of its placid nature. In addition, children are encouraged to groom and care for the donkeys.
The children who attend the centres have a wide range of disabilities; some may have learning difficulties, others are physically disabled or have behavioural problems, brain damage or sensory impairment.

Samuel has gained his balance and confidence
Three and a half year old Samuel started coming along to EST Manchester in October 2007. After an unsettling start of wanting to cling firmly on to his mum, Jennifer, he is now very happy for her to watch him during his donkey riding sessions around the purpose-built arena.
Support for Rebecca and Mario's parents
Karen has been bringing Rebecca (aged 6) and Mario (aged 2) along to EST Leeds since 2004. Both children have Down's Syndrome and now benefit from improved posture and balance after their regular therapy sessions at the centre.
Royal Marine Commando Challenge
On Saturday 11th October 2008, after many months of training and preparation, members of EST Sidmouth staff took part in the Royal Marines Commando Challenge, at Woodbury.
